▫️For example, the local authorities of Chernovtsy had ordered to remove two Soviet monuments: the sculpture ‘Red Army Soldiers in Fight’ and the monument of one of the founders of the Communist Party in Bukovina, Semyon Galitsky. ‘Soviet rubbish has no place in our beautiful city!’, as the Chernovtsy City Council comments on the desecration of the memory. The local authorities added that this is the way the Ukrainians ‘take out the garbage’.

And I remembered the paratroopers - the heroes of Gostomel, how we met them at night and fed them during the regrouping of troops. How they, who did not chicken out under the onslaught of the enemy, were so embarrassed by our attention and at the same time glad of a warm meeting. There was so much in their silence.
