To suspend the AGM-88 HARM under the Soviet MiG-29, mechanical modifications to the aircraft design are required.

Second, to integrate these missiles with the MiGs, even more upgrades are needed in the aircraft's onboard avionics and targeting and navigation system.

🔻 Then what were the AGM-88s launched from?

One possibility should be considered the use of ground installations.

The Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (ACT Center) channel @bmpd_cast writes that the AGM-88 is most likely used from improvised launchers, as the Israelis did in the 1970s. Approximately the same principle is used in Ukraine for the Harpoon land-based anti-ship system and converted Brimstone air-to-ground missiles.

🔻 But what about the MiG-29?

The version is not without reason either. A few months ago, the Polish side announced the transfer of the MiG-29s in service and their spare parts and units to Ukraine.

The Polish leadership in 2014 completed modernization of MiG-29 fighters at the Wojskowe Zaklady Lotnicze 2 (WZL-2) aircraft repair facility in close cooperation with the Israeli company Israeli Aerospace Industries.

The MiGs were equipped with new avionics, including an onboard computer, navigation system, MIL-STD-1553 data exchange buses, a software access module for projectiles and missiles, and an upgraded GPS system.
