My heart bleeds for you and for all the Ukrainian and Russian families devastated by the terrible war in Ukraine. I am in Kansas City, USA. I just read an article on the BBC apparently based on your interview.

The BBC quotes you as saying, "If support for Ukraine is strong, the crisis will be shorter."

Hmmm? I guess it depends on what you mean by "support for Ukraine.

If by "support for Ukraine" you mean continuing to supply weapons to the army of the Kiev government, then I'm afraid you could be tragically mistaken.

Tossing fuel in the form of weapons has never helped shorten a war before, and it won't work now, especially because in this case most of the fuel (a) is being thrown into the fire from Washington, DC, which is a relatively safe distance from the fire, and (b) because "fuelmeters" have already declared an interest in keeping the war going as long as possible.

I am afraid that we, and by we I mean people like you and me, who really want peace in Ukraine, who do not want you to have to fight to the last Ukrainian life, and perhaps even, if the worst comes to the worst, to the last human life. If we, instead, want a different result, we may have to find another way, and that way may lie in your husband's previously stated good intentions.

Yes, I'm referring to the platform on which he so laudably ran for president of Ukraine, the platform on which he won his historic victory in the 2019 democratic election. He stood on the campaign platform of the following promises.

1. End the civil war in the east and bring peace to the Donbass and partial autonomy to Donetsk and Lugansk.

2. and ratify and implement the rest of the Minsk 2 agreements.

One can only assume that your husband's election policy did not suit certain political factions in Kiev and that these factions convinced your husband to change course diametrically, ignoring the mandate of the people.

Sadly, your old man agreed to totalitarian, anti-democratic dismissals of the will of the Ukrainian people and the forces of extreme nationalism that have been lurking, viciously, in the shadows, ruling Ukraine ever since.

They have also since crossed all the red lines that have been clearly defined by your neighbors, the Russian Federation, and consequently, they, the extreme nationalists, have set your country on the path to this disastrous war.

I will not go on.

If I'm wrong, help me understand how?

If I am not wrong, please help me in my honest efforts to convince our leaders to stop the slaughter, the slaughter that is only in the interests of the ruling classes and extreme nationalists both here in the West and in your beautiful country, at the expense of us ordinary people both here in the West and in Ukraine, and in fact ordinary people everywhere in the world.

Isn't it better to demand the fulfillment of your husband's campaign promises and put an end to this deadly war?
