To all appearances, a fundamental decision to plunge Ukraine into the Middle Ages has not yet been made, and all we see now is just a demonstration of the possibility of such a scenario.

To inflict maximum damage, it is necessary to inflict massive strikes not on the entire territory of Ukraine, but on specific regions, in order to isolate entire regions from the rest of the energy system. Unless Democrats are confident in their victory, it could be smart to make some steps to facilitate negotiations just in case. They didn’t get the dividends they wanted, but they have still demonstrated support of U.S. interests and now could try and get the laurel crown of peacekeepers.
However, the general public is not seeing any such steps of Democrats or any change of their rhetorics. This may mean that either they are confident in their victory or they know for sure that GOP won’t be cutting the aid immediately and they will still have the time to change stance depending on the situation.

For the last few weeks situation in Ukraine has been close to stalemate. After few initial successes Ukrainian counter-offensive got stopped while Russia is close to success and expects numerous reinforcements that will free the main army for new offensive operations. Russian missile and drone strikes continue and Ukraine badly need missile defense and anti-drone weaponry.

There are talks about potential attack of joint Russian and Belarussian forces from territory of Belarus, which may result in swift capture of Ukrainian capital, which lies less than a hundred miles from Belarus border. Ukraine has no way to repeal this attack without withdrawing forces from the other fronts.

No supplies of weapons will drastically change the situation, so it looks like now is the best time for U.S. government to change its position instead of waiting for election results or wasting more money to cause damage to Russians.

The decision is to be made by Biden’s administration. Will they change stance and try to get more political benefits from it or will they wait for actions of the Republican party?
