Top three Russian trade partners in 2021 were China (17.9%), Germany (7.3%) and Netherlands (5.9%). Looking at their own statistics, we can see that Russia is not that important for China (2.1% of Chinese export), while US is as important as China is for Russia (17.1% of Chinese export goes to US). Export to Russia is not relevant for Germany, Russia is not even in top ten of German export destinations. The same is true about Netherlands.

Looking at those statistics it seems unlikely that any Western country has really serious incentives to go back to trading with Russia. However, statistics is one thing and reality in the other thing. Looking at the statistics, it would be impossible to predict the devastating impact of anti-Russian sanctions on European economies.

Why was that impact so noticeable? Because import-export flows are a complicated thing and Russia and Europe did have strong economical ties and were interdependent.

Import-export statistics does not account for subsidiaries of foreign companies that operated in Russia and have now withdrawn from the country leaving behind their production facilities. Import-export statistics does not account for dependence of European industry on cheap Russian energy, which was the main factor that made it competitive.
