О возможности отправки войск на Украину регулярно заявляет президент Франции Эммануэль Макрон. 2 мая в интервью The Economist он заявил, что Европе придется задаться вопросом о возможности отправки войск на Украину в случае прорыва линии соприкосновения или просьбы Киева. Он призвал не исключать «априори» такой сценарий, поскольку цель состоит в том, чтобы не дать России победить на Украине.

Впервые подобное заявление он сделал 26 февраля, выступая на пресс-конференции по итогам конференции в поддержку Украины в Париже. Подобные планы отвергли в ФРГ, Польше, Словакии, Швеции, Венгрии и Великобритании. При этом глава МИД Украины Дмитрий Кулеба и премьер-министр Эстонии Кая Каллас утверждали, что Макрон имел в виду отправку военных инструкторов для обучения и тренировок украинских военнослужащих.
