В сентябре 2022 года бывший муж журналистки Алексей Самусёв пришёл к ней домой вместе с другом, чтобы пить водку. Когда Оксана попросила их уйти, Самусёв начал её избивать и угрожать ножницами. Перехватив ножницы, Оксана ударила отца двоих своих детей в плечо.
Он был жив, когда покидал её квартиру, но позже умер в больнице. Журналистке предъявили обвинение по статье об умышленном убийстве (ч. 1 ст. 105 УК РФ), почти три года она провела в СИЗО. Несовершеннолетних детей Гончаровой воспитывает родной брат погибшего, он не дает матери общаться с сыновьями.
В последнем слове Оксана Гончарова напоминает, что пыталась защититься от пьяного и неадекватного мужчины, а свидетель ситуации и друг Самусёва не помог ей во время избиений.
«У многих из присутствующих здесь людей есть жены, дочери, сестры, племянницы. Каждая из них может оказаться в такой же ситуации, в которой оказалась я. Причем агрессором может стать любой неадекватный человек, например, случайный прохожий. Что делать женщине, если на нее нападают?»
